Types of Braces

Lakewood & Long Beach CA Orthodontics

We offer a range of orthodontic treatments for all ages including Invisalign, clear ceramic braces, and small traditional metal braces to help you achieve and maintain the smile you have always wanted. Dr. Irene Fowell and her team take pride in utilizing the most advanced orthodontic technology available. These advancements allow us to better focus on each patient's unique orthodontic needs in the most effective way possible. Read below for more information on the types of braces that we offer.

Metal Braces

Metal braces are the most commonly chosen orthodontic treatment. They consist of high-grade stainless steel brackets that are bonded to each tooth. A wire runs through each bracket to hold everything together. The wire is then tightened according each patient’s individual needs. The metal braces we use are smaller, more comfortable and can be a variety of different colors according to your preferences. Metal brackets are very strong, making them a great choice for more severe orthodontic treatments.

Clear Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are made of a clear, translucent material. The brackets and wires are very similar to metal braces, except for the fact that they are meant to blend in with your teeth. Due to their cosmetic appeal, clear braces are most popular with our adult and late teen patients. Clear braces are a great aesthetic alternative for those who do not want their braces to show as much, yet still desire the efficiency of traditional braces.

Invisalign is the “clear” choice for patients who want to straighten their teeth without anyone knowing. The Invisalign System is made up of a series of clear overlay templates called aligners that are generated by digital computer simulation to gradually move your teeth. The benefits to the Invisalign System are that there are no brackets to attach or wires to tighten, as there are with traditional braces and clear ceramic braces. The aligners are removable for everyday activities, such as eating, brushing and flossing. This treatment is available to adult and advanced teen patients with certain orthodontic bite problems.
